Title:ALIAS - Albumin in acute stroke
Purpose:Many stroke studies have been performed looking for an effective treatment for patients who have suffered an acute ischemic stroke. Thus far, all have failed. This study seeks to determine the effectiveness of albumin versus placebo given intravaenously for stroke patients.

Study Number:108857
Number of Patients:12
Elgibility: Eligible patients must be 18 years of age or older and seen at Loyola University Medical Center within five hours of displaying stroke symptoms. Patients may have received the clot-busting agent, tPA, but the study medication/placebo must be started within one hour of the tPA.
Treatment:Albumin or placebo (inactive fluid) will be given for two hours via intravenous needle. Patients will be examined for neurological motor and sensory evaluation and scored accordingly.
