Loyola University Health System is considered
a national leader in trauma and emergency services,
and its Burn Center is one of the busiest and largest
in Illinois.
Major Programs:
Loyola
LIFESTAR – our aeromedical program, now in its
eleventh year, has transported more than 9,300 patients.
The program is accredited by the national Commission
on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, a rigorous
examination of aviation procedures, safety practices
and records, condition and mechanical upkeep of the
aircraft, patient care protocols, education and training
of staff and research.
Trauma
Center – Loyola University Medical Center's
Level I Trauma Center, verified by the American College
of Surgeons in 1995, has demonstrated leadership on
a regional, state-wide, and national basis.
Burn
Center – the Burn Center at Loyola University
Medical Center, with a 10-bed Intensive Care Unit and
an 11-bed Step Down Unit, provides holistic care to
the critically injured burn patient from the point of
injury to reintegration into society. The center is
verified by the American College of Surgeons and the
American Burn Association. A community education program
focuses on burn prevention.
National/State
Leadership
- In November
1998, Loyola's aeromedical program, LIFESTAR, was
awarded the second aeromedical program accreditation
in Illinois from the national Commission on Accreditation
of Medical Transport Systems.
- Loyola's
Burn Center is the one of the busiest in Illinois,
treating more than 350 inpatients annually.
- The
Burn & Shock Trauma Institute is the only
such program in Illinois dedicated to conducting burn
and trauma research.
Pioneers
in Our Field
Loyola's Trauma
Center, designated a Level I trauma program, was the
first in Illinois to be verified by the American College
of Surgeons in 1995.
