surgery and rehabilitation services of Loyola University
Health System are recognized on a regional and national
basis.
Our Major Programs
- Orthopaedic
trauma surgery
- Loyola is a Level I trauma center, the first
to be verified by the American College of Surgeons
in 1995. Serving as part of the highly sophisticated
trauma team are specialists offering extensive
training and experience in orthopaedic trauma
particularly complex hip fractures.
- Shoulder and
elbow surgery
- regarded as a regional leader in shoulder and
elbow surgery, Loyola offers specialists with
international training and national reputations.
- Spine
surgery
- Loyola's clinical activities and research into
problems of the spine attract international attention.
Research into how the spine works is undertaken
in conjunction with the Biomechanics Laboratory,
a facility for research and education in orthopaedic
biomechanics that is recognized worldwide.
- Hand
surgery
- Loyola's expertise in hand surgery includes
trauma, arthritis, peripheral nerve problems,
spinal cord paralysis and congenital deformities
of the hand. Loyola has on staff one of the few
orthopaedic surgeons in the United States to specialize
in pediatric hand abnormalities. In addition,
a Hand Rehabilitation Center directed by Loyola's
Occupational Therapy Department provides both
acute and follow-up care.
- Total joint
replacement and reconstructive surgery
- This program is
considered a regional leader with specialists
in the orthopaedic management of neuromuscular
disease and experts in total joint reconstruction.
- Sports
medicine
- The sports medicine program offers advanced
diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopic techniques.
Staff have established affiliations with several
professional sports teams and have worked with
the U.S. Olympic Committee.
- Pediatric
orthopaedic surgery
- Special services are provided to children who
have fractures, congenital abnormalities, scoliosis,
cerebral palsy, myelomeningocele and club feet,
among other conditions.
