Neurology
Neurologists
diagnose and treat disorders of the brain, spinal cord
and nerves. Loyola University Health System’s
(Loyola) neurology faculty members have a broad range
of interests in various facets of neurology and related
neurosciences. Because many of the physicians are nationally
recognized and involved in innovative research, the
department can match the needs of patients to the expertise
and specialization of physicians. Loyola’s neurologists
are distinguished not only by their expertise but also
by their unusually collaborative relationship with Loyola’s
neurosurgeons and other specialists.
Loyola
is equipped with the latest facilities and technologies
for neurological care. The hospital includes a specialized
neuroscience intensive care unit, which is exclusively
dedicated to neurology and neurosurgery patients. The
latest imaging and diagnostic technologies are available
through the neurodiagnostic laboratory. Adults and children
are treated in neurology outpatient clinics at various
sites, including specialized clinics for Alzheimer’s
disease and memory disorders, epilepsy, headache, multiple
sclerosis, myasthenia gravis, neuromuscular diseases
and peripheral neuropathies, neuro-infectious diseases
and sleep disorders.
Loyola’s
neurologists are clinicians as well as educators who
are knowledgeable about the latest developments in their
field, engaged in teaching the next generation of neurologists
and working to develop better treatment methods. Major
research is underway on nervous system infections, Parkinson’s
disease, Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis,
epilepsy, neuro-vision disorders, neuromuscular disorders,
diabetic neuropathies and stroke.
