Loyola
University Health System (Loyola) takes a multidisciplinary
approach to treating Alzheimer’s disease and other
types of dementia. The Alzheimer's Disease and Memory
Disorders Center provides evaluation, diagnostic assessments,
and management for both family members and the patient.
Neurologists use the latest technologies for diagnosis,
including MRI, CT and neuropsychological testing as
needed.
The
center is a primary care provider for Alzheimer's disease
for the state of Illinois, and accepts referrals from
physicians and national and local Alzheimer's disease
associations. The center can offer experimental drug
therapies, as Loyola is regularly involved in national,
multi-center drug trails. In fact, Loyola played an
integral role in testing and bringing to market the
three standard medication treatments for Alzheimer’s:
Cognex, Exelon and Aricept.
Beyond
technologies and drugs, a personal relationship with
the patient and family, social support and education
are integral parts of the clinic’s services.
