Peripheral Vascular Disease

Loyola offers the very latest in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular disease (PVD). PVD is a condition that causes a narrowing and hardening of the arteries that supply blood to the arms, legs, brain and kidneys. The disease is a powerful indicator of future risk for a major cardiac event such as a heart attack. Left untreated, PVD can cause insufficient blood flow throughout the vascular system, leading to organ failure and tissue damage.

The term “peripheral vascular disease” refers to several specific conditions, and can include the following:

At the Center for Heart & Vascular Medicine, a multidisciplinary team of doctors from internal medicine, cardiology, cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, neurology, radiology and vascular surgery care for patients with PVD.

This multidisciplinary team of doctors evaluates each patient individually for the presence and the severity of the disease using non-invasive and invasive diagnostic tests.
