Loyola’s Congenital Heart Clinic is located
at the Center for Heart & Vascular Medicine at Loyola
University Medical Center and provides patients access
to the full spectrum of health-care professionals and
services available at Loyola, including those who go
beyond cardiac issues. For example, Loyola’s high-risk
obstetrics department works closely with the Congenital
Heart Clinic to manage pregnancies of women with heart
disease or a history of heart surgery.
Our commitment to our patients goes beyond providing
basic health care. One way we do this is by providing
educational resources that address the medical and social
aspects of congenital heart disease. These resources
are available to the patient, the patient’s family and
referring physicians.
Patients
seen at the clinic include those with congenital heart
defects such as: pulmonary stenosis, aortic stenosis,
coarctation of the aorta, atrial septal defect (ASD),
ventricular septal defect (VSD), Tetralogy of Fallot,
patent ductus arteriosus (PDA), patent foramen ovale
(PFO), Marfan’s syndrome, Eisenmenger’s syndrome,
Ebstein’s anomaly and transposition of the great arteries.
Adults
with congenital heart disease are invited to participate
in social and educational activities sponsored by our
Treasured Hearts Support
Group.
The Treasured Hearts Support Group provides education
and support for parents with children affected by heart
disease. These
gatherings and activities provide parents with encouragement,
perspective, and education as they talk with and learn
from adults who live with heart diseases similar to
those that affect their children.
