How to Refer to Electrophysiology
Loyola serves as a major regional and national referral center for the treatment of complex rhythm problems, offering treatment options often unavailable elsewhere. Our health-care providers are eager to assist you and your patients with their heart and vascular disease.

If you would like to discuss a case with any of our electrophysiology specialists, please call (877) MDs-LUHS.

Who should you refer with atrial fibrillation?

  • Highly symptomatic patients with paroxysmal or persistent atrial fibrillation
  • Young patients with symptomatic atrial fibrillation
  • Patients with poor medical rate control and chronic atrial fibrillation.
  • Patients with atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure
  • Patients with atrial fibrillation and LV systolic dysfunction
  • Patients with atrial fibrillation and coronary artery disease

Treatments available

  • DC cardioversion
  • Antiarrhythmic medical therapy
  • AV node ablation and pacemaker/ICD implantation
  • Pulmonary vein ablation for atrial fibrillation

Information requested for patients referred with atrial fibrillation

  • Electrocardiogram
  • Echocardiogram
  • Laboratory tests (i.e. BMP, TSH, etc)
  • Anticoagulation records
  • Stress test
  • Holter monitor
