Clinic Day Expectations - Congenital Heart Clinic

The Congenital Heart Clinic is available at the Loyola Center for Heart & Vascular Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center. The clinic's location provides access to the full spectrum of health professionals and services available at Loyola.

Before the Visit
The team will need to know your medical history. Please contact your doctor and/or any hospital that you have been in for copies of the following information:

  • Hospital discharge summaries
  • Operative reports
  • Any lab and test results
  • Cardiac catheterization films

Please arrange for this information to be sent or faxed to us before your visit.

The Visit
The visit starts with a history and physical. Diagnostic testing, if needed, is available in the Congenital Heart Clinic. The visit lasts about one hour. No hospitalization, invasive testing or surgery is planned for the first visit. Testing during the clinic visit may include an electrocardiogram (EKG), echocardiogram (use of sound waves to take a picture of the heart), pulse oximetry (measure oxygen saturation) and exercise treadmills.
