Social Services
Continuum of Care
Being
diagnosed with cancer is a very challenging experience
for patients and their families. Often, receiving medical
care is very intimidating and stress provoking. Social
workers can provide advocacy, guidance and support to
help make the cancer treatment experience less overwhelming.
At Loyola, social workers play a vital role in promoting
the patient’s care with the medical team. Our goal is
to treat patients as individuals and make certain that
both emotional and physical needs are being met.
Social
workers have expertise in many areas. They can offer
support in times of crisis, explore resources when you
don’t know where to turn, and help communicate better
with your medical team, family and friends. Your social
worker can be an important advocate for you within the
medical community and beyond.
Every
patient at Loyola has a right to receive social work
services. If you or your loved ones want to see a social
worker please ask your doctor or nurse to refer you
or call the social work department and they will make
sure that you speak to a social worker promptly. You
can receive social work services in all hospital and
clinic areas, so never hesitate to ask.
