Pain Clinic
Special Clinics
The
Pain Clinic is a multidisciplinary program in which
a team of specialists provides a wide spectrum of services
to relieve chronic intractable pain. The pain management
program is based on an initial evaluation of the patient's
condition, which includes a review of the referring
physician's findings, diagnostic tests, physical examinations
and maintenance of a "pain diary". Services
include therapeutic nerve blocks; spinal steroids with
narcotics; impulse augmentation techniques with implantable
devices; intravenous local anesthetic administration;
implantable intraspinal narcotic delivery; systems for
home care of patients with cancer pain; cryotherapy;
myotherapy; acupuncture; electro-acupuncture; TENS;
neurolytic blocks; physical therapy and exercises; and
behavioral techniques such as biofeedback, group, individual,
and family psychotherapy.
The Pain Clinic is offered on an outpatient basis at
Loyola University Hospital and
Oakbrook Terrace Medical Center and the Cardinal Bernardin
Cancer Center.
