Guidelines
With any form of cancer, the best chance of full
recovery is when it is detected as early as possible.
Screening
Mammogram
Loyola Breast Care providers recommend
regular screening
mammograms annually for all women
ages 40 and over. We
recommend screenings earlier than age 40 if you
are at high risk for breast
cancer.
Diagnostic
Mammogram
Your
doctor will order a diagnostic
mammogram when an abnormality is detected on a
screening mammogram, when you have a current
or previous history of breast cancer, or you or your physician has detected a lump in the breast, among other reasons.
Additionally,
your physician may order a breast ultrasound to
supplement a diagnostic mammogram.
Once
you have had breast cancer, your future mammograms
should always be diagnostic mammograms.
