Physical Therapy Services

Physical therapists provide evaluations, rehabilitation and treatment for a variety of acute and chronic conditions for hospitalized and ambulatory patients of all ages. The goals in physical therapy are to educate and assist you in achieving an optimal level of independence and function, and to promote your health and rehabilitation.

A physician's referral is required to begin therapy services.

Specialty Programs
Participants with a variety of diagnoses can benefit from our comprehensive physical therapy treatments:

  • Facial nerve damage
  • Lymphedema
  • Neurological concerns
  • Orthopaedics/musculoskeletal injuries

  • Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMJ)

Additionally, Loyola's physical therapists provide services for adults trying to return to their workplace following an accident, injury or medical condition:

  • Functional capacity evaluations
  • Work conditioning

Treatment Techniques
Our programs emphasize an individualized approach with tailored treatments. Your treatment may include:

  • Balance and coordination training
  • Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation
  • Conditioning and endurance activities
  • Facilitation of normal movement
  • Gait analysis and training
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Pain management
  • Patient and family education
  • Prosthetic training
  • Range of Motion (ROM)
  • Strengthening
  • Wound care management

Pediatric Treatment Techniques
Both inpatient and outpatient physical therapy services for children are provided through the Ronald McDonald® Children's Hospital of Loyola University Medical Center. Caring for children offers unique challenges. Treatments may include:

  • Assistive device evaluations and training
  • Coordination and balance training
  • Fabrication of foot orthotics
  • Facilitation of normal movement/gross motor skills
  • Gait analysis and training
  • Inhibitive/serial casting
  • Measuring and fitting of lower body compression garments
  • ROM and strengthening
  • Wheelchair fittings
