Radiology Services

Radiologists at Loyola University Health System (Loyola) are recognized nationally and internationally for their clinical excellence, innovative diagnostic and therapeutic methods, and for using latest technology. The group offers a full spectrum of imaging services ranging from the simplest radiographs and ultrasound images to the most complicated and high-tech computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and nuclear medicine. Electronic images are available instantly to physicians through an electronic medical record system for efficient consultation. Our radiologists perform the latest interventional techniques in the central nervous system, vascular system, abdomen, breast and musculoskeletal system.

Specialty Services
Oakbrook Terrace Imaging Center
An open MRI, CT scanner and computed radiography are offered at this convenient office in the western suburbs.

3D Imaging Lab
The lab constructs three dimensional models from CT and MR images.

Neurointerventional Angiography
The department offers high-tech, minimally invasive treatment for neurological problems - such as brain aneurysms, blood clots and tumors - that can prevent the need for surgery.

Positron Emission Tomography
Loyola offers one of the world’s most sophisticated PET scanners for detecting cancer, heart disease and neurological problems.

Interventional Radiology
Using imaging technology and very small instruments, radiologists treat a variety of disorders without surgery, such as balloon angioplasty to open blocked blood vessels, embolization to stop bleeding or block blood flow to an aneurysm or tumor, and radiofrequency ablation to kill cancerous tumors.

Pediatric Radiology
Two faculty members focus exclusively on radiological imaging of pediatric patients.

Women’s Imaging
Screening and diagnostic imaging is performed in a facility dedicated exclusively to women’s imaging. Other procedures include image-guided breast biopsies.

Research
The research program includes study of helical CT, breast imaging and intervention, ultrasound imaging, vascular and neurovascular intervention. State-of-the-art stroke intervention and liver tumor treatment programs are underway.
