Psoriasis
is a chronic, debilitating disease that affects the lives
of nearly 7.5 million people in the United States. Recently,
there have been significant advances in our understanding
of the nature of psoriasis. These advances have not only
given us new insight into the scientific basis of the
disease but also led to new research to find improved
methods of treating psoriasis.
The Loyola University Health System (Loyola) Psoriasis
Center provides full service psoriatic care for patients.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life for individuals
with psoriasis through clinical care, research and education.
Specifically, we hope to directly apply the knowledge
gained by our research and find new and better ways
to treat those with psoriasis as well as educate physicians,
patients, and their families.
Our Services
Patients with psoriasis are evaluated and treated using
traditional topical therapies, phototherapy, systemic
treatments and new biologic therapies. Treatment for psoriatic
arthritis also is available.
Research
To improve our clinical treatment options, we continually
try and get a better fundamental understanding of the
disease and study new potential treatments. Our goal
is to be among the national leaders in all aspects of
psoriasis research.
