Peripheral
Vascular Laboratory
Specialists
in the peripheral vascular laboratory perform non-invasive
procedures to diagnose a variety of arterial and venous
diseases. A partial listing of these diagnostic procedures
includes:
- Carotid
artery evaluation including duplex imaging
- Arterial
evaluation with or without exercise testing
- Testing
for deep venous thrombosis including direct venous
duplex imaging
- Evaluation
of chronic venous insufficiency
- Transcutaneous
oxygen measurements--arterial ischemia
- Arterial
duplex evaluation for assessment of graft patency
post arterial bypass, renal, mesenteric and upper
extremeity arterial lesions, and to rule out arterial
and venous injury
Major
Research:
Carotid, peripheral arterial and venous studies are
performed for pre-cardiac transplant evaluation. The
laboratory has functioned as the local office for the
NIH-sponsored Asymptomatic Carotid Artherosclerosis
Study (ACAS). Currently, the lab supports a variety
of arterial and venous clinical projects. These studies
include:
- Ultrasound
guided thrombin injection of femoral pseudoaneurysm
- Effective
radiotherapy on carotid artery atherosclerosis in
head and neck tumor patients
- Evaluation
of carotid patches
- Evaluation
of anticoagulants and arterial grafts
- Evaluation
of temporal arteritis
