Gastroenterology Services
Loyola
University Health System’s (Loyola) pediatric
gastroenterologists provide comprehensive consultation
to physicians and diagnostic services for children with
gastrointestinal (GI), hepatic and pancreatic diseases.
Disorders treated include chronic hepatitis, chronic
vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, Crohn’s disease,
failure to thrive and/or inability to gain weight, gastroesophageal
reflux disease (GERD), liver or pancreatic disease,
poor nutrition and ulcerative colitis. State-of-the-art
diagnostic procedures include upper and lower GI evaluations
and visual examination of the GI tract. Other diagnostic
tests include upper endoscopy, colonoscopy, percutaneous
liver biopsy, intestinal biopsy, esophageal and rectal
manometry, pH probe, string test and hydrogen breath
(H2) test.

Nutrition Program
Expert caregivers treat nutrition-related diseases in
outpatient and inpatient settings.
Complementary
& Alternative Medicine
Pediatricians treat gastrointestinal problems with alternative
medicine techniques, such as acupuncture or hypnosis,
and integrate them with conventional medical treatments.
Feeding
Problems
Loyola’s pediatric gastroenterology staff works
with developmentally disabled children who have feeding
problems so that they are able to eat and thrive.
Research
Faculty
members are studying the epidemiology of GERD in children
and adolescents.
