Orthopaedic
Surgery & Rehabilitation Services
Loyola’s
orthopaedic surgery and rehabilitation specialists offer
you a complete range of surgical and non-surgical treatments
for illnesses and injuries that affect the bones, joints,
muscles, tendons and ligaments. Specialists in orthopaedic
surgery, podiatry, and physical medicine and rehabilitation
are experienced in caring for people at every stage
of life: infants, children, adolescents, adults and
seniors. Conditions commonly treated include congenital
problems, broken bones, arthritis, sports- or work-related
injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, back problems and
diabetic foot problems.
As part of an academic medical center, these physicians
also are faculty at the Loyola University Chicago Stritch
School of Medicine. Physicians are accustomed to teaching
you about your injuries or conditions, since they also
train the orthopaedic surgeons of tomorrow.

Research
Biomechanical Research Laboratory
Orthopaedic surgeons and research engineers collaborate
to develop new implant designs and procedures. Loyola
has the world’s only laboratory in which scientists
can simulate G-force loads and measure their effect
on the human spine. This unique lab draws researchers
from around the world to Loyola.
Musculoskeletal Biology Research Laboratory
Scientists in this laboratory study the musculoskeletal
system on a cellular and molecular level to define how
bone cells function during skeletal growth, development
and repair. Recent research focuses on the link between
alcoholism and osteoporosis, a severe condition of bone
loss.
Orthopaedic Molecular and Cellular Biology Laboratory
The scientists in this lab are focused on understanding
how and why excessive alcohol consumption damages the
human skeleton, leading to an increased risk of fracture.
