Preparing for laser vision correction
surgery
We understand that having laser vision correction
surgery is a decision that will have a positive
impact on the rest of your life. Should you decide
to go forward, here is some information about
how you can prepare for your day of surgery.
- Plan for one to three days of recovery time.
Arrange time off from work, school or other
obligations ahead of time.
- Arrange for transportation after surgery.
Your vision will be slightly impaired for a
few days after surgery.
- Do not use any cream, makeup, lotion or perfume
for 24 to 36 hours before your surgery.
- Read the informed consent form you receive
at your appointment. Ask questions if there
is anything you do not understand.
- You will have to administer medication in
the form of eye drops. Make sure you are comfortable
doing this. Be prepared to wear an eye shield
for some period of time after surgery. This
will minimize the chance of injuring your eyes.
- You may feel some pain or discomfort after
surgery. This usually is minimal, depending
on your type of surgery.
- Be patient during your recovery. Your vision
may take days to months to stabilize, depending
on the type of laser vision correction.
