Institute for Bioethics & Health Policy
The
Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics & Health Policy
is dedicated to the three-fold mission of research,
education and service. The institute serves the students
and faculty of Loyola University Chicago Stritch School
of Medicine, health-care professionals and patients
of Loyola University Health System, and professionals
from the regional community and across the nation.
The Neiswanger Institute is committed
to educating health-care professionals to be effective
leaders for social justice in medicine and society,
and likewise, is committed to understanding and respecting
the role of religious and spiritual traditions, especially
that of the school’s Roman Catholic heritage,
in health-care decision making.
The primary
values of the institute, a regard for social justice
and a commitment to understanding the roles of religion
and spirituality on medicine, give rise to a research
and teaching focus for institute faculty that includes
addressing racial and ethnic disparities in health care,
fostering cultural humility and competence, contributing
to global health, promoting public health, and advocating
a renewal of medical professionalism that evidences
a concern for the common good.
