Lap
Band
The
lap band procedure involves the placement of an adjustable
silicone band around the gastric fundus. The procedure
differs from gastroplasty and gastric bypass in that
it requires no dissection of the stomach. Use of the
lap band is a less invasive procedure as well. The disadvantages
to lap band are that it provides for less weight loss
and requires fluoroscopy adjustments of the band. Lap
band has been shown to achieve a 43% excess weight loss.
