Kidney Transplantation

Indications for Transplant
Anyone with established or pending failure of their kidney function is a potential candidate for renal transplantation. We encourage all such patients to undergo evaluation.

For Physicians

To evaluate your condition, we will ask you to take the following tests:

  • Laboratory studies: blood type, viral titers, chemistries, blood count
  • EKG-further cardiac studies if warranted, may include stress test and coronary angiography.
  • Chest X-ray, T.B. skin test
  • Ultrasound screening of the abdominal organs
  • Dental evaluation if a needed, identified on physical examination.
  • Current PAP smear and mammography for females

Additional studies may be indicated based on the candidate’s health history or findings on examination at the time of transplant evaluation.

Excluding Reasons
Excluding someone as a renal transplant candidate for medical or other reasons is relatively uncommon and done on an individualized basis.
