Services
include consultation for complicated infectious diseases,
such as HIV/AIDS, infections in immune-compromised individuals,
community-acquired or hospital-acquired infections and
fever of unknown origin. Among the diagnostic tests
offered are identification and antimicrobial susceptibility
testing of anaerobic microorganisms.

Endocarditis
Management
Infection of the heart lining and heart valves is treated
in collaboration with cardiologists and cardiovascular
surgeons.
HIV
Clinic
A multidisciplinary team cares for more than 300 individuals
infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).
International
Medicine &Traveler’s Immunization Service
This travel clinic decreases the risks of foreign travel
by offering vaccinations before travel well as evaluation
and treatment of travel-related illnesses after travel.
Research
Clinical
studies include treatment of infections associated with
organ transplantation; new therapies for pneumonia,
soft tissue, bone and intra-abdominal infections; nutrition
for HIV-positive individuals; management of urinary
tract infections; and prevention of infectious diseases
in vulnerable populations. In addition, Loyola University
Health System (Loyola) contributes to a national reference
center for identifying and testing antibiotic resistance.
