Asthma
Program
The
Asthma Program was developed by a team of physicians and
specialists at Loyola University Health System (Loyola)
who follow the recommendations of the National Heart,
Lung and Blood Institute. The goal of the program is to
teach patients how to control their asthma with the latest
monitoring and treatment techniques so that they can live
without restrictions.
Asthma
control is achieved through:
- Evaluation
by an asthma specialist
- Diagnostic
tests to confirm the diagnosis of asthma and quantify
its severity
- Development
of a medical action plan to allow the patient to respond
to changes in their own disease
- Education
about asthma medications by a respiratory therapist
dedicated to the treatment of patients with asthma
- Careful
consideration of environmental triggers, allergens,
diet, exercise and behavioral techniques that may
improve asthma control and limit the need for medications
