I started getting varicose veins in my 20s, and I knew they would always be a problem. But I never expected them to stop me from doing the things I loved.
It wasn't the stares or the never wearing short skirts that bothered me. The veins became a serious physical obstacle. Excruciating foot cramps often woke me up in the middle of the night. I would have to stop halfway through my aerobics class because my legs were aching, and I was having issues with terrible itching, but it was under the skin - an itch you can't scratch.
It got to the point where it prevented me from riding bikes with my husband, from exercising, from standing at work, even from resting for long periods of time. That's when I noticed an advertisement for varicose vein treatments at Loyola. I was so excited I called right then for an appointment.

From the beginning, Loyola made my treatment a wonderful experience. My nurse practitioner was so attentive, and my doctor explained everything step-by-step. They really cared - and showed me that having varicose veins didn't mean I had to put my life on hold.
Today, I can keep up with my husband and kids. I can exercise when I want, and I sleep through the night. I live my life on my terms, and I've never been happier.

I developed very young. I remember jumping rope at recess in fourth grade and having the older girls comment that I needed a bra. By high school, I wore a double D cup. Because of my small frame, I turned heads everywhere I went, whether I wanted the attention or not.
When I was a teenager, I didn't mind it so much, but soon the stares got to be too much. I would wear baggier clothes to try to hide the size of my chest. I would have back pain, and my bra straps would dig into my shoulders. If I ever had to dress up, it was impossible to find clothes that looked nice. It really started to affect the way I felt about myself.

After talking it over with my husband and mom, I realized it was time to do something about it. I talked to the doctor in my community, who suggested Loyola. When I went in for my appointment, I knew I was in the right place. My doctor was so kind, explaining to me exactly what the mammoplasty reduction procedure involved and gave me the information I needed to make the decision for myself.
Since having the surgery, I feel great. I have a renewed confidence when I look in the mirror and I can wear whatever I want. Best of all, when I talk to people, I get atten-tion because of what I'm saying, not because of how I look.
