Say What?

Hearing loss doesn’t have to hinder a person’s quality of life.

From parties to picnics, social situations can be frustrating when you’re living with hearing loss. Even watching TV or going to the movies can be tiring because dialogue is difficult to follow.

While those with hearing loss are often hesitant to use hearing aids, the latest devices are not the hearing aids of generations past. Today’s devices are more discreet and can automatically adjust to various sound situations.

“Hearing device manufacturers realize today’s patient doesn’t live in a lifeless or soundless world,” said Sonya Reschly, MS, clinical audiologist at Loyola University

Today's hearing devices are small and discreet.

Health System. “Our patients enjoy dining out, golfing, visiting family, going shopping and listening to music. Today’s new technology makes that all possible by allowing easier communication in a variety of listening environments.” Some of the latest hearing devices even include Bluetooth programming to work with compatible wireless devices such as cell phones and MP3 players.

Getting the right hearing aid simply involves a comprehensive hearing assessment, hearing aid evaluation and a series of follow-up assessments to determine how the person is benefiting from the device. It is a painless process that can be immensely rewarding. “We see how patients’ overall confidence and enjoyment of life can improve by re-connecting them with the people and the activities they enjoy,” Reschly said.
