“We are helping women who experience high-risk pregnancies achieve the best outcomes. Through the Fetal Assessment Center, we offer leading-edge testing, accurate diagnoses and a team of highly trained professionals to determine the best course of care for mother and baby before and after birth.” — John Gianopoulos, MD, chair of obstetrics and gynecology at Loyola University Health System’s Stritch School of Medicine

When 32-year-old Lisa Geiger wasn’t keeping down any food or water during her pregnancy with triplets, her perinatologist recommended she make an appointment at the Fetal Assessment Center at Loyola University Health System.

During her first visit, Lisa talked with several friendly professionals who put her at ease about her pregnancy. She was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum (severe nausea and vomiting that can lead to weight loss, metabolic imbalances and nutritional deficiencies).
Lisa met with a nutritionist to discuss dietary changes and a psychiatrist to help overcome her fears about her pregnancy. Their support and encouragement made her feel confident that she was receiving the best care available.
“I wouldn’t change anything about my experience at Loyola,” Lisa said. “I had great physicians and delivered three healthy, beautiful babies. I highly recommend the Fetal Assessment Center to anyone who needs special care during their pregnancy.”
Here When You Need Us
Like Lisa, you can ask your physician for a referral to the Fetal Assessment Center at Loyola, or call us directly if you’re experiencing any condition that may affect your pregnancy. We offer a variety of tests, screenings and monitoring methods if you have one or more of the following risk factors:
• High blood pressure
• Diabetes
• Kidney or heart disease
• You are past your due date
• An ethnic background in which certain genetic disorders are more common
• Excessive or insufficient amniotic fluid surrounding the fetus
• A history of multiple miscarriages
• Pregnant with two or more fetuses
• Pregnant with an underweight fetus
• Pregnant at age 35 or older
• A family history of genetic disorders
• A family history of birth defects
• Abnormal maternal serum screening test results
The specialists at the Fetal Assessment Center provide expert outpatient services including ultrasound, perinatal consultation, genetic counseling and fetal heart-rate testing. Most recently we’ve introduced chromosome screenings using ultrasound and blood tests at 11 to 14 weeks gestation (previously performed at 16 to 18 weeks) to detect abnormalities in the earliest stages.
To schedule a consultation at the Fetal Assessment Center at Loyola, call (888) LUHS-888. For your convenience, we offer these services at Homer Glen, Elmhurst and Glendale Heights, as well as our Maywood campus.
