measure and improve our performance are based on the newest scientific methods, as well as a rich spiritual tradition.

Our primary mission is to achieve excellence in patient care and in the education of health professionals. It is born of a Jesuit tradition that promotes academic distinction, ethical behavior and scientific research. We believe that learning, thoughtful stewardship and 
constant reflection on our experiences help us improve all that we do. And we put our belief into action.

Loyola University Health System systematically plans for quality improvement. From the Board of Directors’ Quality Committee to quality teams in each department, our commitment to continuous improvement runs deep. At Loyola, a major catalyst for positive change is the Center for Clinical Effectiveness (CCE). The CCE was established in 1997 and includes nine full-time staff members under the leadership of William Barron, M.D., executive medical director, and Anne Porter, R.N., Ph.D., administrative director.

The CCE takes a scientific, data-driven approach to identifying appropriate areas for improving patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. They define higher levels of performance and create processes to achieve them. Working with groups throughout the Loyola University Health System, the CCE manages and integrates quality efforts and ensures timely reporting and response. The CCE empowers individuals in every aspect of care to create new ways to help us serve our patients better and deliver high-quality health care that meets patients’ expectations for value.
In 1999, Loyola University Health System was selected to join the Quality Management Network (QMN) of the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, 
a group of 42 U.S. and Canadian hospitals that have demonstrated exceptional efforts in improving the quality and value of their services. QMN members share expertise 
and collaborate on new ways 
to achieve excellence.
