Loyola
University Hospital (formerly Foster G. McGaw Hospital),
is a teaching, tertiary care facility with 570 licensed
beds. It has been nationally recognized for its contribution
to the study and treatment of cardiovascular disease,
perinatal and neonatal disorders, cancer and burn injuries.
Specialized
facilities include:
- A state-designated
Level I trauma center
serving western Cook and DuPage counties
- A 21-bed burn
center servicing a four-state region
- One of four cranial
base surgery centers in the nation
- The Ronald McDonald
Children's Hospital of Loyola is a hospital
within Loyola University Hospital and includes:
- One of 10
perinatal
centers in the state. Loyola's perinatal
network has the lowest mortality rate in
Illinois for low-birthweight infants.
- A 50-bed neonatal
intensive care unit
- A pediatric
intensive care unit (18 beds)
- A unique intensive
care unit solely for heart transplantation patients
and a coronary care unit, with mortality rates
for heart by-pass surgeries among the lowest
in the nation.
- A bone
marrow transplantation unit
- An aeromedical
service that features a "flying emergency
room" helicopter, Loyola Lifestar, available
24-hours each day, within a 150-mile radius
of the medical center.
