Awards:

  • Stephanie Bluemer, BSN, OCN, works in 6West. She received a $500 scholarship to pursue graduate studies from the Chicago Chapter Oncology Nursing Society in October 2008.

  • Karen Kiley, MS, ANP-BC, AOCN, works in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. She received the Outstanding Member of the Year Award from the Chicago Chapter of Oncology Nursing Society in October 2008. This award honors a member who contributed to CCONS development by sharing his/her time and expertise.

  • Rita Vercruysse, BSN, MPH, Medicine Director Support. Rita accepted the Award for outstanding innovative programs from Triton College October 9, 2008. LUHS participated in the 1st Annual Desplaines Valley Region (DVR) Health Careers Day for highschool students.

  • Lisa Festle, RNC-NIC, MSN, CCNS, works in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She will be awarded the Robyn Main Award for Excellence in Clinical Practice in September 2008. This national award is presented to one recipient each year for clinical excellence in neonatal nursing.

  • Debbie Jasovsky, PhD, RN, CNAA, BC, Associate Chief Nurse Executive. She received the Professional Recognition Award from the Organization of Nurse Executives/NJ in December 2007. This was a peer recognition for her contributions to the nursing profession in New Jersey.

  • Linda Juretschke, PhD, RNC, ADN, NNP, CCNS, works in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She has been recognized as the Journal of Obstetric, Gynecologic, & Neonatal Nursing (JOGNN) Reviewer of the Year. This honor is given once a year to a member of the JOGNN Editorial Review Panel as recognition for outstanding contribution to the journal as well as to this specialty area of nursing. One of the criteria for being awarded this honor is having given service to the journal as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board. Linda had served on the board from 2004-2006).

  • Jeanette Cronin, RN, BSN, works in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She will be awarded in September 2007 the Robyn Main Clinical Excellence Award in San Diego, CA. This is a national/annual award for excellence in clinical nursing in the neonatal intensive care unit. Jeanette is this years sole recipient of the award.

  • Susan Finn, RN, MSN, Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and Program Director in the Pediatric Mobile Health Unit. She will be awarded on September 22, 2007, the 2007 Spirit of Ignatius Award. This Niehoff School of Nursing Alumni Award is presented to the graduate that best characterizes "Curas Personalis" or Care of the Person.

  • Megan Kuck, RN, BSN, works in the Medical Intensive Care Unit. On April 26, 2007 was awarded the 2007 Lifesaving Partner Award. Her achievements in partnership with Gift of Hope Organ & Tissue Donor Network increased life-giving organ and tissue donation in Illinois and northwest Indiana. Megan raised the awareness of Organ and Tissue donation and increased the referral rate by 50%.

  • Mary Altier, RN, MSN, Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist, on March 14th, 2007 was awarded the "Champion of Immunization Award" from the Chicago Area Immunization Campaign. The award was presented to Loyola Health System for Innovation in Immunization Programs.

  • Christine Chaput , RN, BSN, CEN, Assistant EMS System Coordinator in the Department of Emergency Medical Services. Her paper, "Disaster Training for Prehospital Providers " was selected for the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) 2007 Evidence Based Practice Award. Christine presented her findings at the Spring 2007 Illinois Symposium at the Marriott in Oakbrook, IL on May 18, 2007. Christine also presented her poster at the ACEP Research Form in September 2006.

  • Dominique Zenon, RN, BSN, Staff Nurse in the Department of Emergency Medical Services. Her paper, "Ischemic Modified Albumin: A New Biomarker for Diagnosing Acute Coronary Syndrome in the ED " was selected for the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) 2007 Evidence Based Practice Award. Dominique presented her findings at the Spring 2007 Illinois Symposium at the Marriott in Oakbrook, IL on May 18, 2007.

  • Vicki Bacidore, RN, MS, works in the Department of Emergency Medical Services. Her paper, "Family Presence During Resuscitation in the Emergency Department: Is it Really Happening?" was selected for the Illinois Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) 2006 Evidence Based Practice Award. Vicki presented her findings at the 2006 Illinois ENA Spring Symposium at the Marriott in Oak Brook, IL on May 5, 2006.

Organizational Involvement

  • Ann Briggs, MS, CRNA, was appointed 2008 member of Educational Committee for the AANA. The purpse of the task force is to help bridge the practicing MS CRNA to the DNP degree.



  • Jacalyn Kareb, RN, MS, CHPN, was annually appointed to the Best Practices Committe for the Illinois Home Health Council for 2007. The Committee's charge is to create disease management best practices to be shown on the website for the Ilinois Home Care Council, including best practices in billing and coding. This would include collaboration with the Illinois Foundation for Quality Health Care (the PRO designated by CMS to work with home health agencies on quality initiatives).
