Illinois EMSC has developed an
educational module utilizing the Joint Commission on
Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) 2004
National Patient Safety Goals. The objective of the
module is to clearly define the seven National Patient Safety
Goals, and provide relevant background information and
statistics to better understand the rationale for each of the
patient safety goals. Additionally, pediatric specific
information, examples and case histories are included to
assist in addressing pediatric safety issues in an emergency
care setting.
The Patient Safety in Pediatric
Emergency Care educational module has been designed as a "ready to go"
presentation; however each presenter can choose to add
slides/information that outline how their institution is
addressing patient safety issues. In addition to the
slide set, the module includes appendices that outline how to
secure continuing education credit (1.5
Nursing Contact Hours
or 1.5 Category II CME), a
post - test, participant/presenter evaluation forms, JCAHO
resources, additional resources and a bibliography. It is our hope that you will
utilize this module to review and enhance pediatric patient
safety within your institution.
Instructions:
Speaker notes have been developed to aid the presenter
with this educational module. If you'd like to view
the speaker notes on screen, switch to "notes page" view (in
the tool bar).
