BEARS (Burn Education Awareness Recognition Support)

The BEARS Program is a free resource available to anyone who is concerned about children playing with fire. It provides trained juvenile firesetter intervention specialists to interview a juvenile firesetter and their family. If you need help with a child who sets fires, please contact the BEARS Program for further information at (708) 216-8739.

Bone Marrow Transplant Family Group

This is a support group for families of patients undergoing a bone marrow transplant. This group affords families to learn coping techniques from others who are experiencing similar situations. It is a safe place for patients to ventilate and discuss concerns as well. The group meets every Monday from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Bone Marrow Conference Room (6th floor in the hospital). Combined Heart Liver Lung Caregiver Support Group

Caregivers only, no patients; mutual support and discussion. Meets the fourth Wednesday of each month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm. Questions can be directed to Susan Long, LCSW, at 708-216-5454 or Marilyn Myles, LCSW, at (708) 216-4486.

Heart Transplant Support Group

The group is for patients who have received a transplant; for patients who are waiting for a heart transplant, as well as friends and family members. The group provides an opportunity for mutual sharing of experiences, and information regarding heart transplant. Speakers are provided on specific topics as well as time for open discussion. The group meets the first Thursday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in the back of the cafeteria (Room 1369-1370) in the main hospital. HIV Support Group

This group is for HIV infected or affected individuals; group members do not need to receive primary health care at Loyola.  The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Building 54, Room 108.  Questions and further information can be directed to Pamela Ferrell at (708) 216-5024.

Kidney Pancreas Support Group

This group meets once per month on either a Monday or Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.  For further information, contact Kate Hensley, MSW LCSW, at (708) 216-4661.

Liver Transplant Support Group

This group is for pre-liver transplant and post liver transplant patients and their families. The group has a speaker each month with open discussion following. The group meets the second Tuesday of every month, room 170, Stritch School of Medicine from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Questions can be directed to Susan Long, LCSW, (708) 216-5454.

Lung Transplant Support Group

This group is composed of pre and post transplant patients and families. Purposes: 1) Mutual support and discussion and; 2) Educational presentation on transplant related issues. Group meets each month on the first and third Tuesdays from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Questions can be directed to (708) 216-4044.

Pediatric Oncology Support Group

This group serves pediatric oncology patients, their siblings and parents. These three groups meet at the same time and are facilitated by Social Workers and Child/Life Therapists. The group meets one Friday night per month from September through May from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the rooms in the back of the main hospital cafeteria. Stress Management Group

Relaxation skills training is an open group for anyone wishing to learn basic relaxation skills, discussion of stress management, assessment of life stressors and demonstration of relaxation techniques included. The group meets the second Wednesday of every month, at the following times: 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 3:00 p.m. and the third Thursday of every month at: 10:00 a.m. Questions may be directed to Marilyn Myles, LCSW, at (708) 216-4044.

T.A.P.P. (Teenage Parent Program)  

TAPP is a 20-year-old partnership between Proviso High Schools (East/West) and our Women’s Health Division. The six-week program brings together pregnant teens during both the fall and spring semesters for information sessions on topics including:

Your Body and Pregnancy
Labor and Delivery
Early Infant Care
Child Safety

Total Joint Class/Patient Group

This group is a preoperative patient education class in total joint replacement of the hip or knee. The patient and any significant others are welcome to attend. The group meets the second, third and fourth Thursday each month at 12:00 in the rehab conference room on the fifth floor of the hospital. Trauma Support Group

All trauma patients, families and friends are encouraged to attend. Participants discuss the impact of their injuries, the recovery process and share the effects of the traumatic event. Meetings are held every Monday at 11:00 a.m. in the 4ICU conference room, 4859, in the Russo Pavillion. For further information, contact the Trauma Coordinator at (708) 327-2680.
