Loyola Volunteer Program

The Reading, Writing & Recovery Program also utilizes thje services of the Loyola University Medical Center Volunteer Program. Volunteers range in age from 16 through vary spry and quick witted 70 yar olds. Hours for these volunteers are prearranged with Richard Taylor the program Coordinator and can range from 2 hours up to as much as 6-8 hours.

How You As A Parent Can Help

  • Provide the Reading, Writing & Recovery Program staff with signatures on the above forms to avoid a delay in service
  • Provide the program staff with your child’s school name, address, telephone and fax numbers
  • Encourage your child to attend the Reading, Writing & Recovery Program. There is evidence that attendance in the program does promote the desire to get better soon

How Your School Can Help

  • Provide the Reading, Writing & Recovery Program staff with assignments and curriculum materials in a timely manner
  • Provide the patient with extra time to finish assigned work upon returning to school
  • Let your student know how much their classmates, teachers, and friends care, by having cards and banners sent to them at the hospital

The Reading Writing & Recovery School Program Wish List

The following is a list of items that we need for the School Room. If you would like to make a gift to the Hospital School Program, perhaps you could consider one of the items listed below:

  • 4 Rolls Plastic laminate
  • 4 Desktop computers (PC) with the following specifications
    • 300 MHz processor
    • 17" color monitor
    • 64 MB of RAM
    • 5-6 GB hard drive
  • Proshare camera
  • Hewlett Packard Scanner (large screen)
  • Altec speakers with sub woofer
  • Hewlett Packard color printer with photo Ret processing
  • Ethernet connection
  • 1 Color copy machine
  • 2 Texas Instument graphing calculator TI82
  • 2 Texas Instrument Calculator #TI90 with links
  • 8 Portable Sony Stereo am/fm cassettte players with head phones.
  • 6 Sony portable stereo cd players with head phones.
  • 1 Overhead projector with computer hookup.
  • 4 Large button multi function calculators with memory, square root, and all basic functions.
  • Books on tape to create an audio library for all age levels from grade Kindergarten through college level.
  • 1 Demonstration counter on wheels with mirror.
  • Radio station with the following equipment:
  • 1 Electric message sign to post the word of the day.
  • 1 Surround sound AM/FM stereo system complete with multi cd changer
  • A special gift account to be used for items necessary for the operation of the program.
  • Donations for the annual Graduation Presentation Ceremony.
