Prayer for St. Luke's Day

Good and gracious God,

you share your ministry of healing

with physicians and nurses, and with all

those professionals who commit their talents

to heal and strengthen patients and their families.

Through the companionship

of the great physician Luke,

bless us with your gifts of wisdom and hope.

Give us patience when we are tired,

strength when we are weak,

and the grace of hospitality for everyone we meet.

Loving God,

lay your healing hands upon us now.

May we walk always in your love.

May every action of our lives give glory

and praise to you, our loving God.   Amen!

Nurses' Prayer

Gentle and Gracious God,

You call me to purpose, sharing your ministry of healing,
to serve with a generosity of spirit,
  to encourage, love, and care
to be Your heart, mind, hands and feet
  throughout the health system.

You call me into your presence,
to speak words of reassurance and comfort,
to be your loving presence to patients,
colleagues and all I meet, those easy to
love and those who might try my patience.

You call me to the practice of nursing,
to look with gentleness on those who are
broken in body and spirit, to touch with
tenderness those who suffer illness or
injury, to listen with my heart as well as
  my ears.

May I always trust Your purpose,
Your presence and Your gift of my practice of the
vocation and art of nursing. Amen!

Prayer for Health Care Workers

Gracious God,

We thank you for our gifts and talents and
for calling us to share in your ministry
of healing.

With a desire to serve you more fully,

We pray,
for minds that seek wisdom and truth,
for hearts filled with gentleness and love,
for eyes that view others with compassion
and understanding

May we listen with sensitivity and acceptance.
May we speak works of reassurance and comfort.
May all whom we touch experience your healing
presence.

Oh God, help us continue to serve you and your
people in joy and peace. Amen!

Blessing for LUHS Holiday Lunches ~ In December

God of all our days, we give you thanks for all the blessings of 2007, especially the gift of one another as co-workers and good friends.

Bring your gift of peace to a world so fragmented with violence and war, with misunderstanding and unrest.  Bless in a special way the children of this world, for they are our hope for the future.

Bless our patients and their families throughout Loyola's Health System.  Help them know your healing and give them your peace.

This season of family and faith, please bless our homes and strengthen our hearts with your promise of new life.  We pray in a special way for our own families, and for all those who help us see your face.

Finally, loving God, as we look forward to celebrating this holiday season, may each of us experience deep within your strength and possibility.  And may we always share your joy with one another.

We praise your name, good and gracious God, now and always.    Amen!
