Welcome to Mission and Ministry

Welcome to Loyola University Health System….where we also treat the human spirit!

Our overall goal is to expand understanding of the core values which animate the Health System’s patient care,  its teaching and research, and its administration and service.  Our core values are steeped in the long-standingPicture of St. Ignatius mission of Catholic healthcare in the United States, as well as the spirit and ethos of Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Jesuits and great patron of Loyola University Chicago and its Health System.

Jesuit medical education and health care have a distinguished history spanning five centuries -- beginning in 1592 at the Jesuit university of Pont-a-Mousson in France, where the first medical faculty under Catholic auspices was established.

The Health System’s Mission and Ministry office coordinates outreach to three groups:

  • Health System patients and families – through the Department of Pastoral Care

  • Stritch School of Medicine students and faculty - through SSOM Ministry Office

  • Employees of the Medical Center and Health System - through Mission and Ministry

Please browse through the Mission and Ministry web page, as well as its links.

And don’t hesitate to contact us if we can be of assistance at any time!
