Minutes of the
Faculty Senate Steering Committee Meeting
Present:
Drs. Dana
Bradziunas, Phong Le, Alan Wolfe, Kim Kenton, John McNulty, Nancy Muma
.Excused:
Drs. John Godwin,
Michael Schneck, Sean Cahill, Bill Cannon, Kim Dell’Angela, Ken Micetich.
Donna let us know that Dr.
Barbato will no longer be meeting with the faculty senate steering committee.
Instead, Dr. Lee will be meeting with us.
The new conventions for BSI and
FIS have been updated and should be linked via the Faculty Senate website.
Keeping the website updated is an issue that needs to be resolved. Donna
Halinski sent out hard copies to the research intensive faculty but others not
have gotten it. All faculty should get a hard copy of the plan.
Faculty raises were discussed.
Dr. Lee has not reviewed the faculty evaluations and it’s not clear that he
will. Since Dr. Slogoff has stated that the FIS evaluation is not used to
determine salary increases, it is not clear what the raises are based on. For
clinicians, clinical revenue generation is more important than academic effort.
The reductions in NIH funding
are going to have a major impact on research intensive faculty at a number of
levels. CART and BSI are two places that need attention. To be poised for the
time when the funding levels recover, we should prepare and have faculty in
place who will be able to get grants. We will work on a plan for tenure and
discuss it at the following meeting of the steering committee. At the next
meeting with Dr. Lee, we will discuss the basis for salary increases and reforms
for FIS.
Faculty nearing retirement
should have a mechanism to get information about possible options.
