Minutes of the
Faculty Senate Steering Committee Meeting
Present: Dana Brazdziunas, Sam Cukierman, Phong Le, John
McNulty, Manuel Diaz, Michael Schneck.
Excused: Kim Kenton, Pam Derstine, Nancy Muma, Sean Cahill,
Bill Canon, John Goodwin
Minutes of the Previous Meeting.
They were not
available and will be discussed in the next February meeting.
Goals for the Next
6 Months
The major goal
should be to increase the visibility of the Faculty Senate and its Steering
Committee. Website, open fora (see below) should increase our visibility among
faculty.a stated that the elections are currently underway.
Website
Sam Cukierman has been waiting for
manuscripts from Drs Garanzini (Invited Commentary/ letter to the Stritch
Faculty Senate), Kennedy (News/Views on Research) Kenton (faculty profile), and
Slogoff (News/Views Research 2010). The website should be up by the end of
January assuming all contributions will arrive this week.
Retirement
Health Benefits - Manuel Diaz
Dr. Diaz summarized the conversation he had
with Moyer (manager from Human Resources). Discussion followed but there were
concerns, doubts, and even appropriate knowledge about the details of the
changes on supplemental health insurance retirement plans. It was decided that
Dana will call Mr. Kelly (VP of Human Resources) and invite him for an open
forum on benefits and its changes. The Faculty Council shall also be involved in
this process.
Planning of
Faculty Senate General Meetings - Winter and Spring
February meeting with Dr Kennedy. Spring
meeting with Mr. Kelly (benefits). Dana will contact them.
Medical Education Planning Retreat
Dana distributed the agenda for next week’s medical
education retreat.
BSI Compensation Committee Update
A committee has been formed and is already
in the senate website. Dana will call Bill Simmons inviting him to chair this
committee, call for a meeting, and elect the chair.
