Minutes of the Faculty Senate Steering Committee Meeting

Present:Drs. Dana Bradziunas, Phong Le, Jack Lee, Alan Wolfe, Kim Kenton, Nancy Muma

.Excused: Drs. John Godwin, Michael Schneck, Sean Cahill, Bill Cannon, Kim Dell’Angela, John McNulty.

Plan for an Open Meeting of the Faculty Senate

We discussed that we need an open meeting of faculty without administrators present. We will have a meeting to discuss revisions to the faculty handbook 2:00 on Nov. 22. We will try to find a room since many are booked. We will try to have another meeting in January or February. This meeting should be focused on a theme or be open for topics of interest to the faculty at the meeting.

 FIS/BSI

 We discussed the problems with the FIS system since the number of hours that are given for teaching have been reduced. The hours are also often incorrect. FIS is only critical for those in the BSI compensation plan. We will find out from Lothar Blatter whether the changes proposed by Dean Slogoff were finalized. The relationship between yearly evaluations and pay raises was discussed. They are not supposed to be linked officially but the general feeling was that they should be linked.

Faculty Senate Website

The link should be added to a place where clinical faculty could access it easily. We should also try to update the faculty website quarterly. A faculty administrative website would be useful and is supported by Donna Halinski. We will follow up on this at the next meeting.
