Minutes of the Faculty Senate Steering Committee Meeting

Present: Dana Brazdziunas, Kim Kenton, Pam Derstine, Sam Cukierman, John McNulty, Michael Schneck, Nancy Muma

Excused: Phong Le, Bill Canon, John Goodwin

Minutes of the meeting were approved and will be sent to Drs. Barbato and Slogoff for their approval. Subsequently the minutes will be posted on the Faculty Senate website.

BSI

Drs. McNulty and Muma will run elections for the oversight committee.

Faculty Senate Annual Meeting

One page summary introducing the purpose of the senate will be distributed and a brief introduction of the officers will take place the meeting.

We will begin to think of plans for future faculty senate meetings with the faculty at large. One idea is a town hall meeting with the new head of LUPF and will focus on this and other financial issues. We hope to have at least 2 meetings with the faculty this year.  A second meeting could focus on research.

Survival skills meetings with Kennedy will focus on grantsmanship through the development office. Three are planned and Pam Derstine asked for suggestions for a topic for 1 additional session. Times will be varied to make the sessions available to those with conflicting schedules.

Website

Outline of website content was presented from last year. The outline was discussed and approved. Sam Cukierman will initiate the site as per the outline. Program and research development could be placed on the site. New topics for the website should be a standing point on the agenda for discussion at the steering committee meetings. Kim Kenton will ask Dr. Slogoff for  the 2010 white paper on research for site. Muma will get letter from Dr. Garinzini on research plans at the University level. “Time commitment crunch” and BSI oversight committee elections will be written up by John McNulty for Hot Topics and Issues. Sam will check with Ron Price to make sure the faculty feedback spot is functional. The BSI plan will be posted; Nancy Muma will send to it Sam.

Topics for next meeting with Drs.Barbato and Slogoff

Public relations group will only get info from Donna Halinski. Should they be able to get info directly.  Discussion to go through department chairs for recommendations.
