Financial Status

Dr. Barbato stated that the medical center did well this last fiscal year, just slightly short of budget. LUPF did well in collecting money but were very under budget. The insurance  change in the depreciation assessment.

Update on Dean Search

Six candidates will be invited back for a second round of interviews. Two of these are internal and 4 are external. By the end of Sept and beginning of Oct open forums with the candidates will take place. Dr. Barbato agreed that any of these candidates that have research programs could give scientific presentations while the others could give presentations on something else such as education. Dr. Slogoff’s last day will be October 31.

Update of the search for VP for Research

The candidates to date were not very strong. With the loss of Dr. Facione, the President has put the search on hold and may revisit the search later.

Faculty input to evaluation of associate and assistant deans

This should be revisited with the new Dean of the Medical Center.

The Manpower Tack Force

Dr. Slogoff said that he is a member of the Manpower Task Force. Academic clinical faculty work from 42 –65 hours a week on average with a mean of 55 hours a week with 32 hours of clinical contact time, according to a meta analysis presented at a meeting at Bowman Gray Medical School. The average numbers will be used in the Manpower calculations to determine how many people are needed to cover the clinical needs. The third available appointment is a benchmark for the wait time for clinics. The third available appointment should be available within three weeks. By comparing the amount of contact time for faculty, the manpower committee could determine if more faculty are needed to reduce the wait time or if the faculty are not covering enough contact hours.
