RECOMMENDATION FOR EMS RESPONSE TO SCHOOL BUS INCIDENTS

The Illinois EMSC Advisory Board recommends that each Illinois EMS System develop a policy addressing their response to school bus incidents. Minimum components of the policy should include the following:

• Assessment of the nature of the incident including mechanism and extent of damage to the vehicle

• Passenger assessment/extent of injuries

• A provision for transporting all children with special healthcare needs and those with communication difficulties

• Age specific issues

• Use of a release form for non-transports.
