Pediatric Mild Traumatic Head Injury

Patient Education Resources

Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) has developed a series of free patient education resources to assist in preparing your patient's parents and caregivers to care for a child diagnosed with a mild traumatic head injury.

These publications are developmentally-specific for infants, toddlers and older children/teens.  There is a fourth version that encompasses information for all ages.  In addition, the "Care Agreement" can be utilized if your Emergency Department chooses to use this education as part of a standard discharge instruction procedure.

The "Return To Play Guidelines" one-page handout reviews the step wise process created by the 2nd International Conference on Concussion in Sport.  Consider providing multiple copies of this resource to your parents/caregivers to share with coaches, day care providers, school nurses, and other family members who care for their children.

All resources are available in English and Spanish, in both Word and PDF formats.

  • Use the Word  format if you wish to edit the documents.

  • Use the PDF format if you wish to print them as they are.
