EMS REGIONAL CQI SUCCESS STORIES
Illinois Emergency Medical Services for Children (EMSC) has a
Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) component that brings hospital emergency
department representatives together for quarterly Regional CQI committee
meetings, to review and discuss quality issues in pediatric emergency care.
These regions are consistent with the eleven EMS Regions defined by statute in
Illinois.
Each regional CQI committee identifies quality indicators of
local interest and defines a related record review tool. The CQI committee
members then perform reviews of cases at their own facility for comparison to
their peer facilities. From 2001 through 2005, over 30,000 records have been
reviewed for quality in this EMSC CQI process by over 100 hospital emergency
departments.
