Gifts of Appreciated Securities or Real Estate
Donate securities or property that has grown substantially in value, and not only qualify for an income tax deduction but also avoid long-term capital gains tax. Click here for stock transfer instructions.

Planned Giving
A planned gift can enable you to assist Loyola or Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine (Stritch) in our mission of patient care, research and education while also reducing your burden of income, capital gains or estate taxes. Many donors find that through a planned gift, they can make a larger contribution than they thought possible.

Planned gifts can include:

  • Bequest: Name a charity as the beneficiary of your estate through your will.
  • Life insurance: Contribute an insurance policy or name the charity as a primary or contingent beneficiary of the policy.
  • Retirement assets: Name a charity as a beneficiary of retirement plan assets such as IRAs or 401(k) plans.
  • Charitable remainder trust: Irrevocably transfer money, securities or other assets to a trust that will then pay you or another beneficiary an income for life or a period of years. At the death of the surviving beneficiary, the remaining principal in the trust goes to charity.
  • Charitable gift annuity: In exchange for a gift of cash or other property, you (or the person you choose) will receive an annuity payment that pays you a fixed amount of money for life. At the death of the surviving beneficiary, the remaining principal in the annuity goes to charity.

To speak with someone about your planned gift options, contact Robert Barto, senior director, Major Gifts, rbarto@lumc.edu, (708) 216-3203. If you are a Stritch alum, contact Shawn Vogen, PhD , Assistant Dean, Development, svogen@lumc.edu, (708) 216-5642. Or read the Fall 2007 issue of Caring for Our Future, our planned giving newsletter for Stritch alums.

Corporations and Foundations

Alumni Gifts to the Stritch School of Medicine

For gift giving opportunities, contact Shawn M. Vogen, PhD, assistant dean for development, svogen@lumc.edu, (708) 216-5642.

Tribute Gifts
A gift in memory or honor of a loved one is a generous and thoughtful way to recognize a person's life and accomplishments. When an honorary or memorial gift is made, we will notify the honoree or next of kin (if requested), and the gift is administered as the contributor specifies. Contact Traci Guyton, gift manager, trguyton@lumc.edu, (708) 216-1050, if you are interested in this type of gift.
